Because cervical spine involvement in RA starts early in the course of a patient’s disease and correlates with the extent and severity of the disease, early aggressive and continued medical management of a given patient’s RA is of importance. Nonsurgical management is supportive. Cervical collars have been used commonly , but do not protect against subluxation or neurologic progression. Cercival collars may be used for emotional support, pain relief, warmth, and a feeling of stability.¹
